British Leyland shares

My dad passed away recently and there were some British Leyland Limited and British Leyland Motor Corporation Limited shares in a safety deposit box.  Would these be worth anything today?  The certificates are dated July 1974 and August 1975?! Thanks

The certificates might be of interest to collectors. No value in the shares themselves.
  • Hi.
Wiki would seem to infer that they are defunct, HERE.
Though if you have actual paper share certificates maybe somebody on ebay, with an old model car might be interested.

You're delving into ancient and convoluted history. I'm not sure whether it was fully nationalised at some point but if anything they would have been superseded or supplemented by shares in other companies e.g., Jaguar plc (bought by Ford in 1989) or ultimately bought out or simply made worthless but just having a brief look into it gives me a headache so net net, no.

The shares in BLMC were acquired for cash by a company called British Leyland Limited, which was then nationalised. That company still exists as BMW (UK) Holdings Limited.

  • Red Robbo put these shares permanently on strike.
  • I’m very sorry to hear about your dad.
We’ve recently come across a certificate for these shares too after my aunty passed away. Have you found any more info? The above comments don’t seem to clarify anything.

Yes they do; read MDMD’s post and follow the links. It was nationalised long ago and those share certificates are worthless.
