Almost paid off SL but can't get hold of SLC!

Hi,
I've almost paid off my Plan 1 SL. I moved from PAYE to DD about 6 months ago, and the balance is now less than the monthly DD.
Following the advice on the SLC website I've tried to phone them but, as seems to be the case right now, I can't get through and they just disconnect me. I don't want to overpay and have to chase them for money, so I've cancelled my DD with my bank.
So...what now? If I can get hold of the SLC I will happily pay off the tiny outstanding balance, but I'm not at all confident I'll be able to get through. So what will they do about the outstanding payment? I'm happy to make a one-off payment, but I don't want them setting up any PAYE payment, or taking me to court or anything, due to them not answering their phones.

DD's are variable. If you hadn't cancelled it, I suspect they'd have taken the final payment for the amount outstanding and that'd be that...1
