Apple Battery Throttling Court Case

Hi,

I just got a new phone so I was going to sell my old iPhone 12 mini to one of the websites like Mazuma that buy old tech (I was going to use SmartCellular as they're offering the best price at the moment). I was also going to add on my old iPhone 7, it's only really worth £40 but it's a nice chunk to add on with the 12 mini...
But I'm seeing that people with iPhone 7s (and other models too) may be due compensation after Apple have been taken to court regarding battery throttling - is it worth holding onto the 7 on the off chance or do you reckon I should just sell it and get the cash now?

I can't see many having the older iPhones, I certainly don't have my old 6 or 6S+.

Apple know I had them so I'm guessing the payout if any will be to all who had one even if not got it now

Is the Apple payout likely to be more than £40, doubt it.

Make a note of any serial and IMEI numbers and keep the proof of sale and you will likely have more information than most.

Its people that have owned them not that currently have them, and then it's likely during a certain window because in later versions of iOS you could turn off the throttling.

The claim was logged in the tribunal in June 2022, the initial application for it to be held as a collective opt-out process was September 2023 which agreed it could go forward subject to confirmation of funding arrangements. No date has been set for the case to actually start being heard. So add time for the court case, then the inevitable appeal... you've got a good few years before the matter is really decided.

It was never really throttled anyway, they reduced the maximum processor speed at times to prevent the phone crashing. The phone would have been performing poorly anyway. I think the chance of getting more than £40 is low.

That's a really good way of putting it, yeah.
