The 52kw a day has only been in last 4 day.
I don't know how big your house is or what heat demand it has, but we've been using about 60kWh of gas a day recently.
52kWh/day with a heat pump suggests that, for some reason, it's using direct electric heating rather than making effective use of the heat pump.

Thanks for your help. Water turned off at the moment so we're using electric shower. Kept WC at what it was before in my last posts. I've looked at stats on melcloud and there have been times in last 7 days when it stopped, probably because of woodburner and being south facing with open plan upstairs.
The backup heaters I didn't know about..where are they please!
We can't afford £15 a day .,.should I change the settings?
    Very grateful for your help
You mentioned.watwr heating turned off and you are using an electric shower.

That can be far more expensive than heating a tank of hot water using your heat pump unless you are done in 60 seconds flat.

You are also spending money on fuel for your wood burner?

As asked now for a third time what is the EPC rating of the house, the kWh it says required to heat and hot water and what model is your Ecodan?

A lot of people.are trying to help you out but as you have melcloud you can monitor closely any change you make and if reduce your costs.

That could be but not necessarily.  My all-time record (that I actually recorded) was 65.84 kWh on 13/12/22.  And the next two days I used about 55 kWh.  My heat pump has no direct electric heater.  I don't record day-to-day usage very frequently; that was a particularly cold spell.  My average throughout the entire life of my heat pump is about 16 kWh per day.

I'm doing my best to answer your questions, but it's been 7 years since installation and I'll have to dig out the information. We weren't told how to use the unit efficiently .
Re the electric shower, it's only used once a day, it's a 10kw shower and on for around 4mins.Less than a KW. The heatpump  was using around 3/4 KW a day.
I am very grateful for the help, thankyou.

    @Swizz

Your EPC can be found here

    https://www.gov.uk/find-energy-certificate

Also did you watch the Freeze setting video I posted as I don't know about the area you live in but we are about to hit -3oC to -5oC overnight for 6 days running starting tomorrow.

As a guide we expect to consume 15-25% more energy in those 6 days on our current settings. So don't panic it's normal as we head into winter.

  • Below are my energy consumption figures so far this year (in kWh from 1/1 to 12/1).  My EPC estimates I will need 15,900 kWh per year for heating and 2990 kWh per year for hot water.  My MCS Compliance Certificate is based on a heat loss calculation that my bungalow will lose heat at a rate of 8.95 kW when it is -3.8 C outside.  So if I could achieve a COP of 3 at that temperature (which is optimistic) I would need almost 3 kW of electricity, 3 kWh per hour or 72 kWh per day.  Fortunately, I seem to do a bit better than this.  And it's very rarely that cold outside.

  • Shall we all post our useless consumption stats with out heat pumps.

Unless they are the same house built exactly the same it is all useless.

You will have to sit down OP and make some changes to your heat pump and get to know it inside out if you are unhappy with it's consumption when we are in winter. There really is no other way.

From the graphs you have shared your weather compensation is working fine and that is what is needed to heat your property.

What you can decide to do is not heat your property as much and put on a jumper or two?

That's harsh and not really true.  If you know the rate of heat loss from your house at a particular outside temperature then you know roughly how much electricity your heat pump should be using.  The construction doesn't matter, it could be my timber frame bungalow or somebody else's draughty shed, if the numbers are the same the power requirement will be the same.

  • Sometimes the truth is harsh, the OP has lots of great information in this thread to try and they have the best monitoring they can get with Melcloud. They need to get stuck in.

If they want more tailored advice they need to present their EPC and or MCS certificate and then perhaps things will become clearer to make a more accurate energy use for their property.

Harsh truth is often just that, harsh.

I won't detail how little our heatpump uses and how little we pay as it's just not comparable as yet before we know more.

I would say however do we know if the OP has a smart meter and take advantage of some of the cheaper TOU tariffs available?
