    My carers allowance and my sons DLA are both paid into my savings account. Never been a problem
  • It would be down to the bank,  some savings account I've had wouldn't allow those kind of payments, others do.
    From a DWP POV  it doesn't matter.

    There shouldn't be a problem if the account contains a sort code and account number which I believe is all that is needed (the same applies to wages from employers) for the BACS system to make a payment.
    Edit: it would appear it is less straightforward than this. See subsequent answers.

    Can't you just transfer the money yourself? This is what i do when i save a little each month.

    From their terms;

    1.2 Using your savings account
    • Your account must not be used for business purposes.
     • Your account is not designed for everyday payments so you can’t set up standing orders or Direct Debits or have an arranged overdraft, and your salary or wage (including pension and benefit payments) must not be paid directly into your account.
    • Cheque books are not available with your account.

    Probably most banks will have similar terms regarding savings accounts as they are not designed for day to day banking, that's what a current account is for.

    because that's not what they are for. You can set up a standing order to have money transferred from your current account to your savings account each month, this is what i do. Some savings accounts with Natwest have a maximum amount you can save per month too so be aware of that.
