Waxing a wooden floor - do I have to sand?

Hello,
I would like to wax my wooded floor, someone told me that you do not have to sand the floor before waxing it. They said it is ok to give it a good scrub and then wax it.
Has anyone had experience of this? The floor has a lovely dark colour to it that would be sanded off if I were to sand it.
Is it normal to wax a floor without sanding it first?
Please help!
Thanks

depends if it's got anything on it
if it's already waxed , that will need to be stripped by using wire wool and white spirit
or if it's been varnished it will need to be sanded back to bare wood .
if the floor gets salot of traffic , it may be better to varnish with dulux diamond varnish0 -
In the olden days my mother use to spend her Saturday afternoon waxing our wooden floor so I know a little bit about it.
If the floor is in good condition and untreaden (ie. you have just lifted the carpets up), brush/sweep/vacuum and wash with a wet cloth. Let dry. Apply liquid wax (or solid wax from tin) with a cotton cloth. Let this dry and using old jumpers around your feet "skate" on your waxed floor in order to make it shine. A second coat might need to be applied. Apply new wax and shine as and when necessary.Every year or so, you might need to use VERY THICK wire wool to give it a rub down, and renew the wax coating.0
