Car insurance nearly doubled within 3/4 months!?

So a 3/4 months ago I moved house, not far from where I lived before and the price went down about £2 with the same insurer. Now looking at renewals I'm seeing it go from £44 aprox a month to £79!. From my understanding prices have been on the rise for a while now but to see such a sudden jump just doesn't make any sense. The monthly above incudes same interest rate percentage as before.
I contacted the insurer and when questioned about the sudden rise, their response was "we can't inform the customer of why a price has changed", followed by "criteria may have changed".
Apart from my address, nothing at all has changed. No crashes, claims, car modifications, zero penalty point ect ect.
I've checked Money Supermarket, Confused and compare the market and all are showing around £80 a month or more, coming to around £940 a year. Which after 6 years of driving, not much compared to many, is still a lot. (More than my 2nd year cost in a smaller car!)
Lastly I've looked through Martins tips and tried them but to no avail. Does anyone have any tips on how I can work out whats going on? renewal is getting closer

Simply put prices have recently gone through the roof.
You can look around but may struggle to find anything with a reasonable price.1 -
As stated, it's just the way things are. I've just renewed mine with Halifax, it was £290 last year and £390 this year, a 35% increase. On the comparison sites all of the well known names were more, most over £500, and when I tried Direct Line they wanted £1700! The market has gone mad, and I'm sure will result in a huge increase in the numbers driving uninsured.
