British Gas is some sort of scam and joke ?

Been in my property over 2 years and moved from SSE to British Gas for elec and gas.

1 bed flat pay roughly £60 a month electricity. I dont know what on earth is going on but I have had enough.

Some months ago I moved to British Gas because standing charge and KWH were cheaper.

month one - cost a few quid more.
text : we're lowering your energy prices in line with government blah
month 2 - cost even more.
text : again : we're lowering your energy prices in line with government blah
month 3 - cost even more again.

This month I pay £70 to the meter and after 3 weeks, its almost gone.

British Gas "We can see you are using the same amount per month" <--- remember this
Me "So why tell me its cheaper and then I am paying more, month on month ?"
British Gas "You may feel you are using the same amount but it can go up or down"
Me..... repeatedly argue back to his first point (<--- remember this)

End the call after being on hold 5 times and the call took over an hour... when he said "You'll have to forgive me, I am new to this" and REFUSED To escalate the call.

No debts on meter. No higher or lower usage. Fridge freezer, computer, tv, cooking, light. All used pretty much the same.

And why on earth do they not show your actual KWH usage on your account  ?

What a shambles.

So looking at your meter readings, what is your actual usage doing?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

£60/£70   is not excessive   -   what is the consumption in kWh ? - please give us all the readings you've given BG

Lots of reasons for consumption -  non-LED lighting, fish tanks, American freezers, showers, use of panel heaters/fan heaters.

Although I find it funny calling British Gas scammers as I honestly don't think they bring anything good to the energy supplier market it's likely you need to provide some meter readings here for others to comment on your usage and costs.
  • Guys, please read what I wrote.
"British Gas "We can see you are using the same amount per month" <--- remember this"
My usage hasnt changed. My monthly allowance is gone in 3 weeks after steady rising cost.
They are hiding the KWH usage, didnt want me to have it. I'v been here over 2 years, doing the same thing.

Nobody uses the same amount every month.   Ballpark consistency is possible but not the same amount.

My usage hasnt changed. My monthly allowance is gone in 3 weeks after steady rising cost.
Not once have you mentioned your actual use.  Just the monthly direct debit.

How much you pay by direct debit is not the same as amount of energy you use.

They are hiding the KWH usage, didnt want me to have it. I'v been here over 2 years, doing the same thing.
BG, like all suppliers, details your usage in the billing.  It will either be metric or imperial depending on your meter.  For electricity, 1 unit =  1 Kw

You haven’t answered any of the questions asked, have you looked at your meter readings? How do you heat your water?
You say your usage hasn’t changed how can you say this, when it was warmer you may have salads, next week you could have had a casserole, or a roast and more coffees/teas. You can determine how many KwH you have used by reading your meters. We have read what you wrote, but did you read what we said, or do just want someone to say yes it’s a scam.

    Nope.

  • Your energy bills are cheap, not sure how this could be a scam 👍 if it was a scam then they would be the worst scammer ever.
  • Of course it was a generalism that amounts to me having a regular monthly spend that was roughly the same, at no point did I state that I or they say I have used EXACTLY the same amount. When on the phone I asked for the location of the monthly kwh usage data etc but he said look at your meter. I find it at least obtuse that the data isn't on my account.

I have now signed up toanother company.
