I bought this
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01NH500RV?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
Because I have Paramount on my phone and hoped that this way I could see what is on my phone on my TV (with hindsight that might have been a mistake).
And I tried connecting it to 2 different TV but neither could see my phone.
Any ideas? Or was the whole idea a bad one?

Your phone needs to support USB-C to HDMI, does yours support it?

Does your phone actually output HDMI through the USB socket?

This is just a cable not a convertor, for it to work your mobile needs to be able to output a HDMI single via its USBC port... some can, some cannot.
In addition, some apps have digital protection such that even if the phone does support it they cannot cast or externally display content. I don't use Paramount so cannot say if this app does or doesn't1 -

Thank you all, it is a galaxy A9 (2018) and I think it does. Obviously I should have bought something else - any ideas what?0 -
I cannot solve but maybe some useful pointers....Had exactly the ( similar! ) issue recently whilst abroad trying to watch streamed sport ( no Paramount). Local techies sold me a converter and hdmi cable that should work.Unfortunately my phone does not seem to have video out facilties on usb-c connector which I found out afterwards. Samsung Galaxy A41 (similar vintage to yours)There was info on the Samsung Galaxy forum that was in hindsight useful. I.e. negative! I was unsure I the end if it was the phone ( net comments that seemed likely) or the rather old TV!Do a search for that question 'video out galaxy A9' . You will get lots of info on how to do it. Some useful others not.On the A41 there is a section for USB settings. Might be worth a look on yours?

What sort of TV have you got? If it's a smart(-ish) TV you should probably be able to cast the phone's screen to it over WiFi.1

It looks like a specific USB C to HDMI is needed for the A9 but Samsung no longer stock it. (Although it has a USB C port it's USB 2 in reality)
You'd have to get confirmation that any other adaptor will work.
You'd then need to put the phone into MHL mode.1 -
