Can I amend a Probate Application

Hi. I have applied online for probate as the sole executer of my brother's will.
Unfortunately, I made a mistake entering the net value of the estate.

I have tried ringing the probate service but, there are long queues and mostly generic information.
Is there any way of correcting this, or will I have to stop the application and start another one?

Regards

Phill (Merseyside UK)

What is the size and direction of the error and does it have any IHT implication?

  • Unless this a major error and or has IHT implication I would just let it go though.
  • As above.
I guess in several applications there is not complete transparency about the figures at the time of the application. Some figures only come to light once you get further into the gathering of information. But probably these will only be minor discrepancies, so not a problem if no IHT payable.

I entered an incorrectly lower figure as the net amount of the estate.
If the correct amount was entered, it would still be well below the IHT threshold.
I believe they ring the applicant check figures in most cases.
I have not posted the will yet, so maybe I could include a letter, when I send it.

    Hi.
I have since received a letter from HMCTS and they will accept a letter or email correcting the mistake before the application is submitted.
