cheap glasses

Had an eye test at vision express £30, recommended glasses for night driving, -1.00 and recommended anti reflect. I had a look at their frames and frames alone suitable were £85/£99 plus £40 for anti reflect
Paid for test and left.
Is there anywhere else I can get some cheap frames just for driving in the dark/wet?
I am aware of vision direct but is it advisable to try them on in a shop?
thanks

I prefer trying glasses on, as I find some are uncomfortable to wear (and you don't want that in a pair you wear to drive), so personally I'd buy from a shop.1

Personally I'd trot round a few places and try the specs on - places like Cubitts, Ollie Quinn, and Jimmy Fairley are fixed price basic lens/frame and then the coating would be an add on. (FYI I live in London).
It won't be as cheap as you might be able to do online though.0 -
I got ones for computer work for £50 including lenses from Specsavets0

I get mine from Specsavers too.
Last time I opted for the "buy one get one free from the £69+ ranges" and had regular glasses and sunglasses.
This time I got a pair for leaving in the car, £29 no anti-glare, and my everyday pair, £29 + tint cost. Worked out to about the same price as last time, but I'm actually wearing these a lot more.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0 -
Have a search online in your local area for spectacle manufacturers, as many of the companies that opticians subcontract their spectacle making to will also deal direct.
Often found on small industrial estates / business parks in villages close to larger towns.
For example there is one about ten miles from me that has a small showroom where you can choose frames and have them adjusted to fit and prices with standard single vision lenses start at around £15. You need a valid prescription which, by law, the optician must give you.0 -
Thanks I actually find it strange how you cant buy minus lenses off the shelf like you can with plus lenses!!! It would be a lot easier if I could buy some -1.00 lenses off the shelf just for driving!0

Did you find some good quality cheap glasses?0

not yet, i dont desperately need them just would make night driving easier especially in the wet0

I got some cheapos online - didn't fit as well as the ones I got from a high street shop, but were cheap enough I didn't care and do the job for the little I wear them. You will need to check which offer anti-reflection though.
