Certifying a will

Where you are asked to certify a will with several pages. Do you need to write “certify to be true to original as seen by me with signature, date, address and profession on each page”?Does certified copy of a will expires? Going to ask a teacher friend of mine to certify a copy of my will and want to make sure it is done correctly and leave it with the executor. Thanks

You need to initial each page yourself, and the witness signs on the last page only.
Adding page numbers, e.g. page 1 of 5 etc.  helps identify the will  as a complete document.

Certify for what purpose? A teacher isn't going to be acceptable for many purposes - and almost certainly not if the original is lost. If you want a 'properly certified' copy, then get a solicitor (who is an officer of the court) to do it.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!
  • I second getting a solicitor to do it. It adds far more 'weight'. Whilst some won't do it unless you use them for another service and others will charge a fee, some will do it free of charge. I had a two certified copies of a will done by a local solicitor a week or two ago free of charge just by walking in. I'm far more likely to use that solicitor again for paid work in the future.

If you mean you want the original will copied and certified before you send it off for probate, then a teacher is one of the occupations that can do this. I did this with my mother’s will. I had the solicitor who was holding a will to produce a certified copy, then a colleague who is a teacher certified several more copies in exactly the same way. These copies were accepted by banks and an insurance company.
