Interestingly my insurer  wrote me that I would be covered in care of renovations due to the accidental damage, but looking at their web site the renovations that they mention are DIY, so they are not the be trusted.

Would I need a second insurance specific for structural works? Is it possible to have it from a second insurer while having the home insurance with my current provider?
Some time ago I read that having two overlapping insurance policies can be a problem, but I've never understood why. Can anyone explain if it's true and why please?

Generally, you are covered by the builder's liability insurance, but insurers are crooks and look for every excuse for not paying. There was a case recently when the builder was properly insured, but forgot to declare some minor and almost insignificant fact when buying the insurance. The insurance company was happy to take money without checking everything, but when something happened they started looking for excuses, found the discrepancy and voided the policy.

Contact your lender saying "I'm thinking of getting the chimney stack removed. Do you care &, if you do, what do you want to know" & see what they say

The problem with asking is that it gives them the opportunity to say "no".  Or to ask for an expensive surveyor to inspect the work.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
