I have recently joined a WI - small but friendly group with a few offshoots (book group, choir, sewing group) Interesting talks so far and several additional outings at a group rate. The only criticism is the tea is awful! I was on duty last month and it was remarked upon that the tea was good! Hope I haven't made a rod for my own back lol.

Here they recommend finding a t-shirt that will fit your dog to put on as a security blanket when fireworks are going off. Might be able to find one at a charity shop. Or pinning a blanket around the dog. With our little dog when we had fireworks during the summer, we put her winter coat on her for the evening and it worked really well.1
