i want to lose my loose change

hi

a while back i saw something on the news about "vending machines" which turn coppers and coins into pound coins.

I have heaps of change at home that i want to convert - anyone know where I can find such a contraption?

thanks

I think they have them at Asda, but they take a "commission".

Why not just get some money bags from Post Office/Bank and take them there, and you won't even be charged for cashing them like you do in them machines..

Yes, and I think it was something like 7.5% that they charge? Although the actual charge will be on the machine.

The (free) alternative is to get some bags from your local bank and bag it up over time (depends I suppose if you have any spare children who are looking for some pocket money?).

Actually, that's what we do, as we put the loose change in a savings account (and generally pay for holidays with it!). But I know people who don't want to do that and actually use the Asda machines because they're convenient. As the OP asked about these machines, that's why I replied as such, but you're completely right. A much better way to do things IMHO.

Coinstar machines, they are in Asda and charge 6%, and even then they normally only issue you with an Asda credit rather than actual cash.

Asda aint stupid, taking your money two ways, but then, if peeps are too lazy/stupid to count their own money into bags then more fool them is what I say.

  • Go down the old fashioned way of putting it in a jar and forgetting about it for 12 months, in our house we save 10 pences and under, every day they go into a jar and at Christmas there will be a very nice bonus of around £100.00 - I would put it in the B. Soc but the visual reminder of your savings building up offsets the loss of a few pounds in interest.

At the end of every day I take all the dross from my purse and just leave the notes and £1 and £2 coins in my purse. Once the jar is full I split it between the boys and put it in their building society account, so tax free.

You can buy the machines QVC were selling one last night for about £20.
