winter break in the Algave

Options

Hello all,

as I have a fair amount of holiday to use before the end of the year, I thought a trip to the Algarve might be nice, so do people book through say Jet2 etc or Flight and hotel separately. Any tips on where to stay would be welcome bonus! Birmingham is my nearest airport.

Thanks

You may find packages will be in short supply in the winter, some UK routes to the Algarve will be ending today and wont resume until late March/early April.

You should me ok with Jet2 from Birmingham. Check the website for holiday packages, including flights. You can book transfers too, in fact they may be included in the packages. I think do some thinking about what sort of hotel facilities you need. We do self - catering, and hire a car to get around. But there are spa hotels available too. Albufeira is decent if you plan to be on the beach for a few hours, and should have some restaurants open even in Winter.  Sometimes they have slightly better prices on the app, or more general special offers. Boa sorte!!!
  • There should be plenty of deals at this time of the year, including from Birmingham. Google will sort it all out. November is a pretty good time
( usually in low 20s C ) but be prepared for a lot of rainy days. Nights are chilly but all hotels and villas have some form of heating. I have only been there once in November, and stayed with friends who live there permanently in Tavira, near the Spanish border. Bom feriado  :)

Have a look at Faro itself.  Excellent hotels, a few sights, proper market, lots of restaurants, old town and an out of town shopping centre.  Station with cheap services to Tavira, Spanish border and even Lisbon if you want a two centre trip.

I can recommend Pestana hotels in Alvor.
Book a hotel with plenty of indoor space and indoor pool as pot luck weather in the winter.
We have had lovely weather sometimes in January and excellent hotel rates at that time of year.
Zest car hire also very good rates in the winter.
