How to Tax My Car From Abroad without the V5C or a Reminder Letter

Will do so !Ayr_Rage said:@Leodogger best of luck and please keep us updated as to what and when you get from your DVLA account by way of texts or emails.
Hopefully they'll send a final reminder in the next couple of days with that vital reference number.1 -
I scanned my Drivers License, V5 and a few other important letters into an email account.
That is only used for documents.
Might help you in the future.1 -
Good idea! I must do that for the future. In the meantime I have received no email or text reminder about my car tax which is due to expire tomorrow even though I have now registered for reminders, so all I can do is wait but I don't want to incur a fine if I don't SORN it off the road for a month until I return. To be honest I am totally surprised they don't cover this scenario in their information on how to tax a car if you don't have the documents with you to do it, as it must affect thousands of people who travel and forget to tax their vehicle 😮Bigwheels1111 said:I scanned my Drivers License, V5 and a few other important letters into an email account.

No as stated above, no one has a key to my house. The car is parked on the driveway so not on the road, but I have just read the Government website and I am sure I read that you can be fined for not renewing your car tax on time, is that true?user1977 said:I don't think the MoT is an issue unless the car is being driven in your absence (technically I think it's required even if parked on the road, but from previous discussions it doesn't seem to be something enforced in practice).
As above, can't anybody else at home access your V5C or post?If is is on the driveway why don't you make a SORN. https://www.gov.uk/make-a-sorn You can do this online.
I may still be advised to do that by the DVLA when I ring them tomorrow as a last resort to see what I can do.Cloth_of_Gold said:Leodogger said:

Good News ! I rang the DVLA this morning and they confirmed that they allow someone without their documents who is away from home to tax it just once! She offered to SORN it off the road too but I said I wanted it taxed, so she did it for me. I won't be caught out again though as I will do as suggested and take a picture of my driving licence and Log Book with Reference No. on it in case I forget again !😁
Thanks to all who took the time to offer me advice !5
