Not really a modern thing given the photo license was introduced 25 years ago. Your green paper license is not longer the 'proper' license as you put it, that would be the photo license. The green paper license is just the legacy license they haven't totally killed off yet that would never be replaced like for like and you would get a proper photot license.

You can look at your license details and the pass dates for each class of vehicle at https://www.viewdrivingrecord.service.gov.uk/driving-record/licence-number
I already tried, it doesn't give the pass dates for mine, only the issue date of the licence. I suppose it doesn't matter, as El Cheapo Insurance can't find out anything different from the issue date- but then again, I'd be deliberately lying if I said that I'd only held a full car licence  since then........

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

Have you looked under the "vehicles you can drive" tab? Mine shows all my pass dates for all my categories

Nothing. I guess it is because I never passed a test for any of the modern categories. My Category A is "Any motor vehicle except group X".
