Money from a Will

I have been left some money from my late Mum's will but the Solicitors seem to be dragging their heels on this - they have now said - 'There has been a further request from the Bank for a copy of our authorised signatories list. We are in the process of supplying the same'
Surely these should have been supplied a long time ago
Do the Solicitors earn interest or take a fee for the length of time to deal with this? It has now been over 8 months  - Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated

8 Months can be a very short time - particularly if there is a property involved.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Who is the executor? The solicitors?

My Nan died in Feb, my Mum (the sole executor) distributed her estate in June, 4 months later. That's with my Nan having lived in a care home for 8 years prior, no property to sell, no probate and my Nan having a funeral plan that paid the majority of costs. Mum still had to wait till she was sure that all monies had come in and all bills had been paid before distributing. This was especially important in our case because an estranged relative (of both me and Mum) was a beneficiary and if Mum had got it wrong, then there wouldn't have been a hope in hell of any money being returned.

How big/complicated is your Mum's estate?

A fixed amount ? or a proportion of what is left after all the bills have been paid.
If it's a fixed amount, and only a small proportion of the total estate, then you might be able to persuade the solicitor to pay you before they finalise the estate, but otherwise you will have to wait until they are confident that they have identified all debts and assets and are able to gain access to all the money, which could require probate.

They don't earn interest on client account money.

The fee basis will be whatever is in the will (if they were appointed by the testator as executors), or whatever was agreed with the executors if they appointed the solicitors.

If the solicitors have only just received this 'further request' any delay isn't their fault.

I know 8 months feels a long time, but in the land of probate, a year or more is common and often wholly justified.
