Pay and display on way back

I've visited tilgate park in Crawley and visited the nature center. On coming back, I realised I forgot to buy a ticket. We were eating our lunch in the car so I quickly bought a ticket while the kids were eating.

I guess they won't be happy about this? On the parking terms and conditions it doesn't say I should buy a ticket straight away.

Cheers.

Keep the ticket.  Come back to us if you get a PCN but is it Council run or a private firm?

Love Tilgate Park and the animals, lake & nature there!  Many a happy afternoon was spent there when my kids were young and parking was 50p with no scammer on site.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I'm guessing it's council run? I'm a new driver and so new to pay and display.

    Yep, Council. Top left.

You are safe and cannot get a PCN.

  • Thank you. Why can't the council send me a PCN?

Because they have to use a CEO on foot and issue windscreen PCNs.

Unlike 'outrageous scam' private parking firms, Councils can't use ANPR cameras for parking enforcement and in these circumstances they can't issue a PCN later by post for a car park.

Which is why Council car parks (and parking on-street) is ALWAYS what you should look to do, instead of entering private car parks with scammer signs.

You are a new driver. Avoid private car parks. Luckily, this wasn't one!

I've been driving 40 years and almost never use car parks except if using a Supermarket.  Always read the signs. I even use the street instead of hospital car parks or pubs, if I see scam signs.  I'd rather walk two extra streets than risk a jumped up £100 postal PCN.

I wasn't aware of this. Thank you. I'll definitely keep that in mind for the future.

And yes, Tilgate park is beautiful. I hadn't been before and didn't realise the nature center was so big.

Bet your driving instructor also wrongly told you not to stop on double yellow lines.  Sigh... I always stop on DYL for exempt reasons, which are many!  They are there to enable certain stopping activity.

I hate that wrong information is taught to drivers about yellow lines. and nobody warns you about the scam of private parking companies!

@Coupon-mad has the DLUHC Private Parking Code considered aligning authority run car parks and private car parks by banning ANPR in the latter too as not fit for purpose?
It does strike me as ridiculous if they allow this to continue it really is one big fly in the ointment.

That would require legislation.  Can't be put through in a Code of Practice as it effectively kills large companies.

But in my view, ANPR use in private hands desperately needs curtailing.
