in Credit cards
Grr...so today (in Singapore) someone pinched my wallet while I was having lunch and proceeded to go on a shopping spree with my cards...

The damage:
3,000 pounds on my uk credit card
another 3,000 pounds on my uk credit card (initially accepted but then declined)
1,000 pounds on my uk debit card
400 pounds on my singapore credit card
I bank with Nationwide ands they were spectacularly unhelpful; they couldn't tell me anything other than the amounts of the transactions; equally I'm in Singapore and they cannot get me a new card for "about 14 days", nor can they post the card to me in Singapore, only my UK address (where I won't be going until March 08). Moreover their employee was extremely rude, whereas previously my experience with Nationwide telephone banking has been good.
My singapore credit card company, however, told me exactly what had been purchased (a mobile phone and a bag) and where - about 500 metres away from where the card had been stolen. So one quick trip later and I found clear pictures of the evil git on CCTV in both shops where he had used the card, and also footage of him filching my wallet and then carefully examining it. Now just have to wait until tomorrow to find out whether the police can track him down from the photo - they were extremely helpful and spent 1 hour taking down all the details etc.
I believe I am not liable for the losses run up on my UK card. But my primary concern currently: that I might be liable for the singapore credit card transactions...400 pounds so would not be a major catastrophe, but still bloody annoying if I have to cough up.
Dammit!!!!!!

I'm really sorry to hear that, hope you get it sorted out. I posted on here a few days ago about my Nationwide credit card being used in Canada ( where I haven't been) after a purchase in Singapore too. Nationwide cancelled the card immediately and said I would not be liable for any fraudulent transaction. But it is easier being in the UK. Maybe the answer is not to carry all your cards in the same place. I know it's sort of shutting the stable door etc, but it may help. Would be interested to hear how you get on with the identification process. Mine was for just over 1k0

Thanks Hansi!
In this case, the card was physically stolen (along with my wallet) - I don't carry all my cards around so I still have access to my back up bank account - but am now paying HSBC 4% every time I get money out which annoys me intensely :-(0
