They won't connect to lead pipes. That's up to the owner to bring up to standard.
Which side is lead, incoming or internal?

Internal. The external supply pipe is the responsibility of the pipeline operator.

My late mother's 1970s-built house had about half a metre of lead after the meter, that then connected to copper pipe. It was the "anaconda" of its day.

Are lead pipes really likely on  a build that recent?
No. I hadn't clocked the build date. Could they have used plastic?
If OP can provide a photo, we might be able to tell.
    Until then, we don't know.
OP if the problem pipework is on your side of the meter, it's for you to fix (a landlord's responsibility) and you'll need a Gas Safe fitter.

  • In a rental property you should have a gas safety check every 12 months - it would be reasonable to suggest to the landlord the engineer could make any adjustments at the same time?

The OP is the landlord. Not sure if netexporter is the same person, or maybe the tenant.

If that’s the case then surely it’s the OP’s fault that the meter hasn’t been exchanged

    Good spot :)

In that case - the OP should know a gas safe engineer who they already pay to attend the property.

In one of my properties (not tenanted) I needed to get the bracket for the meter changed as there had once been a gas fire and cooker which had been removed so it was a branched arrangement the supplier wouldn't touch - it took maybe 10 minutes on top of the boiler check and my plumber charged me £20 for the extra time/new bracket.
