Disabled road tax

The post office this morning refused to process my request for 50% road tax reduction.
They said I need to contact DVLA?
I am confused.
How am I meant to do it? I shown them V5C, I shown them the PIP award letter.

https://www.gov.uk/financial-help-disabled/vehicles-and-transport You have to send off documents to DVLA.
How to claim
You must include the following with your application:
- a letter or statement from the Department for Work and Pensions that shows your PIP rate and the dates you’re getting it - if you’re getting PIP
- an ADP decision letter from Social Security Scotland that shows your mobility component rate and the dates you’re getting it - if you’re getting ADP
- the vehicle log book (V5C)
- a V10 form
- an original MOT or GVT certificate (if your vehicle needs one)
- a cheque or payable order (made out to ‘DVLA, Swansea’) for 50% of the full rate of car tax for the vehicle
- an insurance certificate or cover note (if you live in Northern Ireland)
Do not send your PIP assessment or any other medical information with your application.
It's a PITA. So we've never bothered.

It's never been possible to claim the 50% reduction from a post office. The same rules have applied since PIP was introduced 10 years ago. (not that i agree with this, i think it should have been made more simple a long time ago)

Ok this is what I did. I applied for a 50% refund and they will send a cheque in the post. Just thinking ahead for next year....is it better to pay the full price and then process a 50% refund...or should one try apply by posting off a month before renewal as per the steps that Rodders53 outlined above?0

I applied by post last year it was sorted in 10 days.Even during the height of COVID it only took 3 weeks.Doing it any other way just gives DVLA and yourself more work.0

You don't need to wait for that letter I usually do it a couple of weeks early.

I always pay it in full and then send off the paperwork to claim 50% back. Just gives me peace of mind that the vehicle is taxed if the DVLA drag their heels.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0

I send all the documents that they require and a check for 50% value of the annual tax fee. Sent mine in mid-Nov 2023 for a 1 Dec 2023 renewal date. They sent my documents back very quickly and renewed the tax but took about 3 weeks to cash the cheque and that only cleared 2 days ago. But as my tax was already processed the car was taxed so it didn't matter. Next year I'll just renew at the beginning of November for a December start so that I'm not constantly checking that the cheque has cleared.
