Private parking charge - Help needed

Hi,

We have received a letter from direct collection bailiffs limited saying that we have an unpaid parking charge notice and we need to pay £170 to them in the next 14 days.

The parking charge was from December last year and we never received a letter with the original fine so had no knowledge of this. The parking charge relates to a retail park and the reason for the charge states on the letter "vehicle remained on private property in breach of the prominently displayed terms". We have no idea what the terms were and we have no recollection of even being there.

My wife rang them and did unfortunately confirm some details with them including her name and address. The woman on the phone gave no information about the so-called debt she just kept repeating that the company had passed the debt onto them and it needed to be paid.

Just looking for some information on where we stand with this. This is the first time it's ever happened to us so we have no knowledge of this kind of issue.

Thanks

Just read the NEWBIES FAQS thread (second and fourth posts are your stages) to see what to do at each stage.

    You cannot appeal now.

But mainly try PLAN A in the first post of the NEWBIES thread. My signature below tells new posters where to click.  You could have this cancelled this week by the retail park owners/agents. Almost always works.

Very easy.  You will never pay.  But you do need to confirm your current address to the DVLA and parking firm.  Cannot safely leave an old address with either.

Why didn't the first PCN arrive? Please don't tell us the car's V5C still shows an old address registered at the DVLA?  Very common mistake that needs putting right online.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
