Reasonable cost for fitting a kitchen?

I have obtained a written quote for work on a replacement kitchen from a carpenter who was recommended to me by a friend who had her’s done by him and is known to the independent kitchen company I’m likely to purchase the kitchen from. Also known to a neighbour who has had work done by him.
He will use a qualified electrician and plumber as well as get someone to re-plaster the ceiling and walls before fitting the kitchen. All works are included in the quote. He has been to our house with the plumber and electrician and has referred back to the kitchen company to change the design slightly with our agreement. Will take about 10/12 days. Skip also included for old kitchen which is about 28 years old. Excluded is flooring and final painting of walls. Bona fide carpenter also registered on Companies House for a number of years and info up to date.
Quote of £4500 in total. Any thoughts if sounds reasonable?

How long is a piece of string?
How big is the kitchen? How much are the cabinets, worktops, appliances? What alterations are needed for electrical fittings and plumbing?
For a small kitchen 10 days is too much IMHO. And, again IMHO, flooring goes first, then the cabinets.

The quote for fitting ours alone was more than that and it assumed old kitchen already out and electric/plumbing work ready for just fitting but you don't know the size or location of my kitchen and we don't know yours.

It could be toppy or it could be a bargain.

Given regional variations why not just get someone else to quote and then you have a local comparison
  • I would say that's a good price

Sounds expensive to me if that's just the fitting cost. Unless it's a massive kitchen, a days work each for plumber, electrician, plasterer, £200 for skip. He's not doing too bad on those wages.

It certainly doesn't sound excessive to me.  Working on the 12 day estimate at £250 per day for the builder, 2 days for the electrician at £300 or more and one day for the plumber at similar rates, comes out around the £4k mark.

Thanks for your comments. To clarify the cost is also for stripping out the kitchen and removing wall tiles. Tiles are 5 high above work surface between units and some at floor level where no base units. Electrician/plumber first and second fixes. Walls skimmed and artex ceiling levelled with new spotlights positioned. New kitchen installation and filling in glass panel over internal door to blend in with kitchen wall. Average size kitchen. Did have a utility area but wall removed years ago to open up kitchen.

Is that including the kitchen or just labour?

I can honestly say i have no idea what size a "Average size kitchen" would be.

I had a kitchen fitted a few months back West Yorkshire. The fitters fee was £1500 for removing the old kitchen and fitting the new. They (2 of them) took 2.5 days. I paid separately for plastering, skip, gas and electric works and for all materials
