Hills v Royal Canin

I recently got a BSH kitten and am getting a second BSH kitten in a few weeks time.
I had a cat since I was about 19 (I'm 30 now) which I fed on Hills for as long as I can remember as he wouldn't eat cheaper tinned food, he would only lick the gravy off! On Hills he looked really well, not fat, but he looked healthy and had a lovely shiny ginger coat.
I was going to feed my kittens Hills but the person I got my kitten from said it wasn't recommended at all and that Royal Canin is far better.
So basically I am wondering what other people's views are on Hills versus Royal Canin. On the plus side, Hills is very convenient as it is sold in Pets At Home and has quite a few flavours and is often on buy 2 get 1 free offer. I actually think Hills is very good value for money. The Pets At Home near me also sells Royal Canin but only seems to be one flavour.
Sorry for the long post but any views would be appreciated.

would love to see a piccie!! I love BSH kitties
Hmmm well i have never heard that Hills is bad....i'd like to know her reasoning? Maybe she just meant that in her view, Royal Canin was just a better food?
I do like Royal Canin, and i like that there are so many varietes to choose from. I dont really know anything about Hills though i'm afraid...:starmod: :staradmin :starmod:I gave up jogging for my health when my thighs kept rubbing together and setting fire to my knickers:starmod: :staradmin :starmod:0 -
Thanks. I was very happy with Hills with my previous cat who was a bit of a fussy eater. From the Royal Canin website it seems that there are quite a few flavours but both the pet shops within easy distance for me (both are Pets At Home as unfortunately there aren't any independent pet shops) only had one flavour.
Here are a couple of pictures of her. She doesn't stay still for long so most of the pictures I've go so far are of her asleep!
The other kitten I'm getting is a silver tabby. I only have one photo of him with my boyfriend holding him but it's a pretty poor picture (I took it!)0 -
What beautiful cats!!and what good photos of them.I am more of a doggy person but i love all animals, whatever their breed or otherwise.
But they really are extremely photogenic!!0 -
awww they are gorgeous cats
re the food in my opinion i dont think hills is that great and think RC is a much better food, but whatever works well for your cats, different animals do good on different foods sadly my cat wont eat any dry food - infact he wont eat anything apart from Tesco Tuna pouches, and i would love it if he ate any remotely better food:rolleyes: Democracy is a process by which the people are free to choose the man who will get the blame.:j0 -
Awwww they are both beautiful!!!:starmod: :staradmin :starmod:I gave up jogging for my health when my thighs kept rubbing together and setting fire to my knickers:starmod: :staradmin :starmod:0

Royal Canin is better the Hills, but then it depends on what the animal likes, it's no good getting one brand if the cats won't eat it, so i'd get the samples and try them before you buy a bag.0

I`m sure I read Hills will do a refund if the cat won`t eat it. My old cat has had Hills since he was a kitten, 17 now and on a prescription version for dodgey kidneys from the vet. It is a little more expensive than the standard, but the cat is doing fine.

Thanks for all your replies. I was so impressed with Hills with my previous cat, it totally transformed how he looked.
I'm think I'm going to go and get a small bag of Hills this week and see if kitty will eat it.0 -
Just a note, Pets at Home own brand food is made by.... Hills.
And it's cheaper and you get a money back guarantee too. And they will have sample packs.
All you can do (because everyone has their own idea of what food is 'best'', is try a food you like and see how kitty does. If it doesn't suit, then change it (over a short period of time).
And stay away from Eukanuba which has had a lot of bad press recently.0 -
OP, your new kittys are beautiful .... Thanks for sharing those piccies ..:happylove Tori Bellatrix :happylove
