Following the recent publication of the highly critical report 'Update on the rollout of smart meters' from the House of Commons Committee of Public Accounts, one of the members (Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown MP) was interviewed on Radio 4's You and Yours programme today.
He stated that 'No-one should be compelled to have a smart meter, at all, under ANY circumstances'.
I hope that Ofgem and Department for Energy Security and Net Zero were listening...

...and out of government fairly soon.
  • With power comes......the ability to disrupt
  • It all honesty I'm far from bothered if someone doesn't want a smart meter anymore or the force fitting legal position.

We all try our best to direct people to save money as is the MSE way but as the saying goes "You can lead a horse to water but......"

  • He's a member of the tory party, but he's not got a 'job' in government as far as I can tell, so no authority to give anything other than his own opinion :D

Plus, it's not like the tories are still going to be in charge when we get to the last few holdouts ;)

And what did the other 14 members state?

The joys of parliamentary privilege is you can say some really stupid things and get away with it. It's only if they start building consensus amoungst them that we have to get worried. Thankfully one dissenting voice gets nowhere.

MP's will start to support every populist idea possible over the coming year as we run up to the next election.
Rishi wants to roll back on LTN's because he supports motorist's, MP's want unfair standing charges removed despite the fact they are inherently fair (but not perfect) and now the anti smart meter brigade have a champion.
    What's next?
