The terminology on the Direct Line site seems clear.  It says 'in the past 12 months' and includes ANY consultation with a GP whether or not medication was required.  If you fail to declare and then have to claim, payment could be declined totally or leave you with a hefty bill you would have to fight after the event with the insurer.

I wouldn't say you have to disclose getting antibiotics for a short term condition. I would presume that it is for something longer-term. Can always be safe and give them your medical record if necessary.
Then don't come here when you find your insurance void for fraud and you're out of pocket for your claim plus now cannot get Home or Car insurance at a sensible price.

The question is, in this case, "Have received medical advice or treatment or been prescribed medication (whether or not it was taken) in the last 12 months, including repeat prescriptions?"

What part of that question makes you think you don't have to declare the prescribed antibiotics you were taking 6 months ago  @DigSunPap  ?
Thats not what I was saying - @noodledoodleman probably has the best answer

When all else fails - call the insurance company and ask them - I've done that 2 or 3 times, they were happy to clarify.

You can, if you've the time to kill to get through to them, however its a bit of a waste of everyone's time when its so obvious that being prescribed something 6 months ago is caught by the question of if you've been prescribed anything in the last 12 months.
  • Agreed in this case - that was intended as general advice only when unsure about travel insurance

I had to declare that I had antibiotics within the last 12 months as I was hospitalised with Pneumonia. Always worth checking with insurance company and declaring it
