Is there an 'official' disabled status? How do we get a disability recognised?

People on AA were not listed among those offered special prices for broadband and mobile calls, after the huge cost of living increase, but after complaints/enquiries some companies have now included them.

I am classified as disabled according to the Equality Act but cannot claim Pip or get a blue badge.
There are numerous conditions that classify a person as disabled under either the Equality Act or Mental Health legislation that don't qualify them for PIP/AA3 -

You might get the care component of DLA if you:
- need help with things like washing, dressing, eating, using the toilet or communicating your needs
- need supervision to avoid putting yourself or others in danger
- need someone with you when you’re on dialysis
- cannot prepare a cooked main meal
You can get this part if no one is actually giving you the care you need, or you live alone.
