PiP seems to be the criteria that universally is accepted as being disabled.
PiP is available if you are under 65 when first claimed. Continues after 65.
After 65 it’s Attendance Allowance, Less money as the motability part is not included.

It is also less as the amount depends on day, night with a carer awake or both lots of care being required, whereas PIP and DLA do not rule on time of day for care. Thank goodness that I have my husband to drive me about (frustrating after no longer being able to drive for myself ) or I really would feel like a second class citizen (which is what I am).

People on AA were not  listed among those offered special prices for broadband and mobile calls, after the huge cost of living increase, but after complaints/enquiries some companies have now included them.

I am classified as disabled according to the Equality Act but cannot claim Pip or get a blue badge.
There are numerous conditions that classify a person as disabled under either the Equality Act or Mental Health legislation that don't qualify them for PIP/AA

As someone who helps run a club that charges those with disabilities a lower membership fee, we ask to see proof  that the person is receiving PIP - it's the only 'official' way we have discovered.
What about retired people who are disabled but didn’t get PIP before they retired?  PIP is usually a working age benefit.

There are many forms of discrimination, because of age, TV licence free, free bus travel, free presciptions

That's not correct. It can be claimed up to state pension age, which is 66.

DLA care is/was based on day and/or night care. https://www.gov.uk/dla-disability-living-allowance-benefit/DLA-rates

If you need help looking after yourself

You might get the care component of DLA if you:

    • need help with things like washing, dressing, eating, using the toilet or communicating your needs
    • need supervision to avoid putting yourself or others in danger
    • need someone with you when you’re on dialysis
    • cannot prepare a cooked main meal

You can get this part if no one is actually giving you the care you need, or you live alone.

Care component Weekly rate Level of help you need
Lowest £26.90 Help for some of the day or with preparing cooked meals
Middle £68.10 Frequent help or constant supervision during the day, supervision at night or someone to help you while on dialysis
Highest £101.75 Help or supervision throughout both day and night, or a medical professional has said you might have 12 months or less to live
