I'm 19 and considering a course with IAM, but need to complete it within the summer break (ie before sept) as I go back to uni then and can't drive there so there isn't any point in me doing a bit now, a bit over xmas, bit over easter, etc.
Does anyone know how long it normally takes to get through the course? I'm quite a good driver (really, I am! I passed my test first time with only two minor faults!) so I don't think it would take me much longer than the average for my age group.

try the Max Driver one if you're young. www.max-driver.com
there are 2 courses. 1 that takes 3 months - 2 hours a fortnight for £99 and the fast track which takes a day + 90 minute test for £199. It's the IAM test plus more from what i can gather.0 -
Oh this MaxDriver scheme seems quite good
I am currently with Adrian Flux already but because my car is modified, I pay a fortune to have it insured. So for just 99 its probably gonna pay for itself!
Thanks for the infoMust ring them on Monday.

you can pick the packs up in Halfords as well. Noticed them the other day but only had the £199 packs.
Was thinking about going for it but just renewed my insurance so might see if it'd be any use next year0 -
Here's a great site that has loads of information regarding many different aspects of advanced driving:

I too am thinking of having some lessons as my work forces me to travel a lot.
Does anyone know of any good books that might help?0 -

Its worth mentionning that Max Driver is actually run by the IAM. It is exactly the same product and course as you get with Skill for Life only more expensive as EMAP who run Max Power magazine have to take their cut !
Only Adrian Flux garantee a discount, but you should also get that for Skill for Life only, ring them up and "ask".
Buy skill for life, its cheaper and it's the same product and training ...oh you get a different manual, called Drive like a God, rather than PYADT (or what is now called, how to be an advanced driver).0 -
The Institute of Advanced Motorist also run their own courses locally, usually evenings and weekends and some fun days which usually coincide with local fêtes /galas etc will give an appraisal of your standard of driving.
Look in your local press and even some college's do the course run by the IAM.
Have fun and Keep Safe.my bark is worse than my bite!!!!!!!!0
