Washer/dishwasher plumbing

I need to move my washing machine to where my dishwasher is and put the dishwasher where my washing machine is.
I want to know is it the same plumbing for a dishwasher as a washing machine?

  • Yes it is providing they are cold fill machines.

if they are older, they may have hot fill too?

If one or both machines have cold and hot fill and you only have a cold supply then, as far as I can recall, you could get a Y adapter and hoses so that the cold supply feeds both hot and cold on the machines.

Maybe there is a better solution, Perhaps the machine can be programmed to only use cold water and the hot feed blanked off.
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".

The cold supply should be OK but you may have a problem with the drainage pipes as the dishwasher could be plumbed into a y under the sink which might not suit the washing machine and then the dishwasher might not be suited to the drainage of the washing machine

Post photos of the existing plumbing and folk can guide you. But, in general, the plumbing is the same.

What sort of drainage for WM might not be suited for a DW? The same with under the sink - it's normal for WMs to be plumbed there. Do you mean any special plumbing?

If one machine is hot & cold fill, it probably won't have a heating element built in. So not sure a Y adapter would be suitable. Depending on the distance, and what ever is in the way, an extra long hose could be used. Would be better to extend the plumbing though..

So the washing machine is cold-fill, which is pretty standard these days.  As are most dishwashers.  If so, then no issue at all, just swap them over.
Personally, if it were me, I'd buy a spigot adaptor so that the drainage pipe can be firmly fixed to the drain, with a Jubilee clip for extra security.  Not strictly necessary, but for the sake of a few quid it gives you peace of mind that you ain't gonna get any leaks behind an appliance that can be a bit or a wotsit to move around.
But in answer to your original question - I've not seen any hot-fill machines for years now, and dishwashers/washing machines are pretty much identical in terms of their plumbing requirements.

I would be able to put our dishwasher or washing machine in that position with that setup.

You may have the same setup under your sink, or you may have one of these which you can connect up with the right adaptor  https://www.screwfix.com/p/mcalpine-single-appliance-trap-white-40mm/81714?kpid=81714&cm_mmc=Google-_-Datafeed-_-Heating and Plumbing?kpid=KINASEKPID&cm_mmc=Google-_-TOKEN1-_-TOKEN2&gclid=Cj0KCQjwtJKqBhCaARIsAN_yS_ms0JaaVE8rG5KJN4qkq5KnNOH4aK00GNLxwvbRQiLWIngFhut89GQaAuOyEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

The white drain pipe seems to be too short/low.  IMO, it's worth making some adjustments to be able to make it higher.
