Hi
i have just started a claim caused by flooding on a family members property. 5 inches of water flooded the bottom floor of a five bed detached house in remote location. House 20 years old, no flood history.
i have just started a claim caused by flooding on a family members property. 5 inches of water flooded the bottom floor of a five bed detached house in remote location. House 20 years old, no flood history.
Water was only present for 24 hours. Has now dispersed.
Is a claim straightforward? How do they adjust value for water damage to flooring, furniture, kitchen units etc?
Thanks

Depends on the quality of the policy.
Generally it's a fairly quick call on if the flooring is salvageable or not, anything that isn't is removed. Then the dehumidifiers are brought in to dry everything so the extent of the damage can be judged. Make a note of electrical readings etc as you can claim the electricity they consume which can be a fair amount.1 -
In my experience, it goes like this
1. Insurance company appoint a restoration/drying contractor
2. Contractor removes damaged property and create an inventory of items removed
3. Contractor arranges industrial dehumidifiers to dry out property, with metered plugs so energy costs can be re-imbursed
4. Once property is dry, a statement of re-instatement works is created such as replacing flooring etc
5. Provide values for each item in inventory to insurance company, they pay you the new replacement costs
6. Re-instatement works completed by insurance company's building contractors or by your own
