Extra (Free?) Credit Showing On BG Prepay Meter After Topping Up

Hello Everyone,

I put £5 on my British Gas electric key but it topped the meter up by £35.

I'm not aware of any schemes etc regarding free extra credit and I'm wondering if anyone else has recently had a similar experience?

How did you pay for the £5 top up? You may have done so already but can you check your bank account to see if £5 was taken or £35.

It was paid by cash on my key at the shop and the receipt is correct in showing £5.

Is the credit exactly £35, or are there some random pence too?

Is this the first time that you have topped up since the tariff changed?

The credit was exactly £35 and I have topped up 3-4 times since the tariff change on October 1st.

I'm not particularly bothered about it but I just wondered if anyone else had had a similar experience with BG that's all.

Thanks, I was wondering if it was tariff-change corrections but from the sound of it, it isn't.

Hi,

if it remains and you use up the extra £30, then it will eventually show up on a statement as owing £30 as you've used the electricity and not paid for it,
