Completely wrong reg in PayByPhone app

Background

Firm: SIP Parking (I believe it's an IPC member)

I park in this particular car park or nearby ones (run by the same company SiP) usually 2-3x a week, for when I'm working in the office.

This car park allows for pay and display tickets, as well as paying online.

I am 99% certain there is no ANPR as far as I can see.

I own two cars and switch between them frequently.

On the day of the alleged offence I chose the VRN of the wrong car in the PayByPhone app (was distracted, late to work), paid for parking in full.

I did receive an immediate confirmation email etc. confirming VRN but as always I ignored it. The app does not automatically choose a VRN, you do need to manually confirm it each time.

Returned after work to find a windscreen PCN.

The only information on the PCN is: Reason: "No Ticket Displayed". At this point realised I'd put the VRN of the wrong car in.

Appealed immediately via email. Appeal rejected via email. Used my own wording, nothing from this forum.

Most likely I named or implicated myself as driver in the appeal (cannot be sure, have no copies of information sent over in the appeal).

Timeline so far:
  • 10/10/23: alleged offence, windscreen PCN
  • 11/10/23: appealed by email
  • 18/10/23: appeal rejected by email

Questions

Have now studied this forum, including Newbies thread and other threads similar to mine via the search function.

RE complaining to landowner: I have no idea who the landowner is. Cannot determine via gov.uk website. There is no address. It's just some land being used as a private car park ran by SIP.

RE the blue one-size-fits-all template: I assume I should not do this given I've already appealed?

RE waiting for NTK: I assume this won't help as I've already appealed (and likely named myself driver)?

Hence, am I right in assuming I have no next steps until LBC (according to the Newbies thread)? I'm obviously ignoring IAS.

However, what about a Data Rectification Notice? I've seen this recommended a few times in newer threads (by Coupon-Mad) in similar situations to mine, but cannot find it mentioned in the Newbies thread. Do I send a Data Rectification Notice? Do I do that immediately? If not, when?

What data are you hoping to rectify? This is normally used when PCNs are sent to wrong address.

Yes, just ignore them and no need to rectify the address unless you move within 6 years.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

The data I'm hoping to rectify is the incorrect VRN entered when I paid for parking! I read in a few threads (which for some reason I cannot find now via the search function/my browser's history, sorry!) where someone had made a data-entry mistake using an app and Coupon-mad recommended contacting the app company under GDPR and asking them to fix the mistake (in my case, asking them change the VRN to the correct one).

Is this not a thing any more?

Oh yes you can do that.  It's a bit tongue in cheek (and they won't) but it's a perfectly reasonable thing to ask them to do!

Yep, a strategy, let us know the outcome; if it works (doubtful) it could be useful for other motorists in the same situation.
  • I'm offering 100:1 odds that they don't "rectify" anything. Any takers?  :)
