Mot advisory.... Not accurate

I know sometime advisory in mot is just tester try to cover themself.

But I have been really disappointed how one year its on there, next year its not.

For example

2020 advisory. Nothing for 2021, 2022, 2023
  • Rear Coil spring corroded N/S and O/S (5.3.1 (b) (i))
  • Nearside Front Shock absorbers light misting of oil or has limited damping effect (5.3.2 (b))
  • Oil leak, but not excessive (8.4.1 (a) (i)
2022 advisory, nothing for 2023
  • Nearside Front Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (1.1.14 (a) (ii))
  • Offside Front Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (1.1.14 (a) (ii))
  • Offside Front Anti-roll bar ball joint has slight play (5.3.4 (a) (i))
2023 failed. IT'S THE OTHER SIDE.
Nearside Front Anti-roll bar linkage ball joint excessively worn (5.3.4 (a) (i))

and nothing mentioned the other side.

The brake disc on mot said it still have 5mm.

Sometime I think it is much better off financially just wait for it to actually failed  and then get it fixed.

Yep. I've had similar on many occasions. Tyre listed as low tread last MOT, this time tester advised it was low but not advisory and showed me that the wear indicator was still there.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

Humans make mistakes - right / left do get swapped over.

Parts that are corroded / covered in oil - well - in 2020 the MoT was obviously done on a dry day but in 2021/22/23 the underside of the car was wet making the same advisories impossible.  Water covers a multitude of sins ;)

Discs and pads can be a bit random.  The car might not have been driven recently and a good hard drive could turn an advisory on discs into nothing the following year.

I once had an advisory on one car in 2012 regarding steering rack play.  Never reappeared on the MoT and I eventually sold the car in 2021!

My corroded brake pipes magically fixed themselves after being mentioned on 3 MOTs, I didn't think corrosion got better with time but every day is a school day :D
