Crossed meter or not?

Not in my experience. There is for a gas meter for an OFMAT test but electric meters, supplier usually just fits a meter to run alongside the existing meter for a few days/weeks, so usage can be compared then removes it.QrizB said:
There's always a charge for a check meter, and it's always refunded if the meter proves to be faulty.Mobtr said:Not sure why they changed you £100, would have thought they would have fitted a check meter for free0 -

Or if they're not charged upfront, the policy is to charge unless it's faulty so they might still be charged afterwards.QrizB said:Mobtr said:Your experience is not the shared experience of the forum.https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/search?domain=all_content&query=check meter charge will find lots of threads where forumites have been charged for a check meter - even an electricity one - with the proviso that the charge will be refunded if the meter turns out to be faulty.1 -
Must depend on the energy company then as the ones I worked for didn’t charge & as far as I’m aware still don’t0

You failed the creep test (goes up when everything turned off), that alone should have raised alarm bells, I dont know why but the industry seem reluctant to do meter tests.Your experience not far off what mine was with OCtopus, they quoted a fee to me, likely expecting me to decline it, I agreed and then was a constant pretending to book appointments, delaying tactics and so forth, it eventually led to me escalating it to the ombudsman and getting very large compensation for elevated meter readings. If you keep getting stonewalled and its a dumb meter, booking a smart meter install will at least get the meter swapped out (thats what I did).I then used the much lower readings of my new smart meter as evidence to support my case successfully.2

As far as I'm concerned, I'm thinking all the inaction is because I'm not worth much to them as a customer. Before all this started, I'd used an average of 4 units per day for the last 2.5 years (now about 24 units average). My DD is £63.00 pm and a couple of £s of that goes to increase my credit balance. They're probably hoping that if they fob me off for long enough, I'll just get fed up and accept the increase. I'm sure a lot of older people end up doing that if they don't have the tech skills to attach photos of meters or maybe are phoning from a landline and are worried about the cost of all the 73 min calls!Chrysalis said:You failed the creep test (goes up when everything turned off), that alone should have raised alarm bells, I dont know why but the industry seem reluctant to do meter tests.

The support team are either stringing you along or incompetent. They should be aware of a known defect where a failed component in your model of meter can cause the exact symptoms that you describe.
