Last week we moved home from where we had a Humax Freesat recorder /freesat aerial, connected to our Samsung TV which had Freeview inbuilt.
In the retirement complex where we are now, there is a Freeview aerial socket,so we connected coaxiale to that. We've noticed using the tv remote, one of the buttons (three vertical lines) that usually act as pause, didn't. But didn't bother too much as we knew a new recorder was due today.
Our daughter/son-in-law have today bought us a Humax Freeview recorder, connected it, used wifi and we've had a quick run through with it. Within the hour we've come away for a week so won't be able to use it, but, before leaving we went through guide to record Coronation St. basically as a test piece. It gave us the option to record one episode or series. We highlighted series. When we looked at programmes due to record, one episode was greyed out, FIVE episodes highlighted due to record.
It's the FIVE that interests me. I can only assume after each episode has BEEN recorded, it gathers another. Is this right ?.

With a series record the box just looks to see how many programmes with the same series ID are on in the next week (the EPG is only a week long) and sets any it finds to record. The box keeps doing this periodically so it keeps finding any other programmes in the series to record. It doesn't record one and then look for another in the future.2

If you selected record series when you hit record on the first instance, it should go on recording each episode ad infinitum. Make sure you watch them and then delete or you could end up like my neighbour. She called me to investigate why programmes wouldn't record and I discovered she had set up a series link but didn’t delete after watching and the whole drive was full of Coronation Street!

It's also worth bearing in mind that some programmes give repeats/signed repeats the same series code, in which case those will get recorded too. Other programmes use different series codes for the repeats so you would need to record those separately.

Hopefully your comments have picked up on my mention of the Humax Freeview recorder. I've got to remove our old system from my mind.0
