Moving to one car insurance policy for two cars

I have two cars registered in my name.
My wife and I previously had two car insurance policies; one in my name with my wife as a named driver, the second for the other vehicle in my wife's name with me as a named driver.
I think this is both unnecessary and expensive since I could achieve the same cover with a single policy in my name covering both cars with my wife as a named driver.
I'm aware one disadvantage is that my wife may/will lose her NCD if she does not take out a policy in her own name. I believe this could be solved by switching the policy-holder/named driver each year.
Does anyone have thoughts about the advantages/disadvantages of my proposal?

You can't insure two cars on the same policy (other than as a temporary measure). You can have a multi car policy, that is still a separate policy for each car.
Have you found an insurance company who will do 2 cars on the same policy for the full year?1 -
doesn't a policy have to have a "main" driver? If so then you couldn't be main driver on both cars.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. In reality that isn't true though, there is nothing to stop an insurer having a policy that could take multiple vehicles and have a different named driver on each. In practice it's been a long time since I've heard of companies offering a personal fleet policy and when they did it was for more than 2 cars (main driver wasn't a concept). I know some HNW Motor do say they allow multiple cars but no idea if its truly a single policy or multiple policies under a wrapper to make it appear a single policy (as a former client did)1
