I need to go to Barcelona and take Bus 46 from the airport T1.

Is it quicker for me to take the airport shuttle bus from T1 to T2 and then take bus 46. 

Or is it better for me to just take Bus 46 from T1?

Are you in a particular hurry? I’m not seeing a lot of point faffing around with a shuttle to get on the bus when you could just get on the bus to start with. What am I missing?

I wonder who, on this forum, could possibly answer your question. I know and like Barcelona (although it is a nuisance having the airport so far from the city centre)................... but the numbers of buses are not something I know the foggiest about.

At any foreign airport, I pick up our rental car if staying for a week or more; and take a taxi if I'm going to be there for a day or two and don't need a car.

This. I’ve been to Barcelona several times and have either taken the metro from Terminal 2 or a taxi into the city centre. Both less hassle than working out which bus to take
