  • So my aim is to be mortgage free 6 years before I'm due to be paid up.

Between now and September 2024 I have a plan in place to pay off all my unsecured debt. It's all on 0% interest deals at the moment and I didn't know about the majority of it until I ended a very toxic relationship.

When he left I started receiving bills from 3 different credit cards which were mostly maxed out but spoke to them and they've confirmed they cannot prove who used it so the plan is in place to get it paid off and be done with it.

I'll probably not be able to make any OP's until 2026.

I really need a new bathroom and a new boiler so that will be next on the list after the debt.

My little flat is my home for life so it's time for me to make it my own and get it perfect for me.

  • Hi Dolly

Good luck with the thread and the clearing of the debt and keeping to the plan to be MF by 2030.

I certainly put myself in that bracket as well, I have spent this year clearing debt and now building 3 month emergency fund, increased Pension Contribution and made first small test overpayment on the mortgage.
My mortgage has 17 years to run but is due for renewal Jan 2025 so will at that stage look to reduce term, that though does depend on increase in rates between what I am on and then.

Life is never straightforward and planning 6 years ahead is hard but as I sit here today I know I can do it.

  • Hi @_Dolly_Rocker_

I would love to join. My mortgage is huge and currently by Dec 30 I'm still forecasting a balance of £66,991 - and that's before my increase in November adds £300 to my minimum payment :(

This will keep me focused, so i want to aim to pay the mortgage AND increase by personal pension by £20,000

    Let's do this!

    MM
    x
    Mortgage 1 - 01/2/2015 - £243,750 ; Mortgage 01/11/2024 - £132,576.55
    Mortgage 2 - 2019 - £76,600 ; Mortgage 01/10/2024 - £47,763.29
    MFit-T5 - reduce to £140,000 MFiT-T6 - reduce to £110,000

    01/10/2024 Daily Interest - M1 = £18.27 (!!); M2 = £7.41

Debt at highest point in 24 -£21,344
Debt 1st November 24 - £16,192.18 24% paid. Focusing on this in earnest!!!
  • Happy New thread.  Good luck!

I'm going to pay off my 'deadlock' 7 years and 5 months early. I've got 81 payments left (plus the overpayments) instead of a whopping 201 payments.  I'm also going to use 25% of my pension. Hopefully it'll have moved upwards a bit faster than it is currently!

I live in London and my mortgage, overpayments and work studio rent cost me about £40k a year.   Yuck.  That's 500 hours of work for me.  Some of that is a tax write off though.  Can't wait to be free of it, and by 2030 it'll be my 60th year on the planet. Im actually looking forward to being 60 (I never thought id say that!).  Enjoy the journey!
