I have a beef stew simmering away. I had planned to make herby dumplings too.
Problem: my beef suet has a sell by of Aug 2007 - I don't know how that happened!
Would you?

Oh yes. Anything that doesn't need to be kept in the fridge can't be that dangerous.
Just been to have a look at mine, it has a sell by date of September 2005 (we don't have dumplings very often), but I used it about 3 weeks ago and we're fine.0 -
Use oil instead, to rub into the self raising flour!
CaterinaFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
You can use margarine or lard as well. I keep my suet in the fridge though and don't worry too much if it is a bit over its sell by date.0
