Holiday abroad with a 7 year old

Next year I'm looking into taking my 7 year old nephew away on holiday, my 81 year old dad may also be coming.
But as I don't have children, this will be something new to me.
Ideally I would like the following.
Good hotel with kids facilities and pool.
near to a beach.
Local area to be flat for if my dad does join us.
Do we go AI? if not then somewhere with a good choice of places to eat out.
Mainland spain or the Balearics, or no more than a 2.5hr flight.
I am looking at going Mid july onwards.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Have a read of this before you book anything: Get permission to take a child abroad - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
You can't really go wrong with Spain, but I would invest in some Riemann P20 SPF50 Sensitive Skin Sun Cream and ensure you apply this to the child at least 15 minutes before you take them outside.
You will also need to keep a close eye on them around swimming pools. Not all the pools have lifeguards, and even if there is a lifeguard, the lifeguard may be pre-occupied and not notice your nephew if they get into difficulty.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.1 -
There will be a good choice of so called "family friendly" hotels that fall within your wants list criteria - best visit a "High Street" travel agent who will keep you right.AI is worth considering - but HB might suit your needs better - hotel buffet meals in the evening will give the boy a better choice as he can go up as often as he wants and have whatever combinations might appeal, rather than table service restuarants.Other opinions may differ. You can hardly go wrong with Spain - the Costa Brava is the shortest flight duration from the UK - and you won't have the tourist tax that is added in the Balearics.1

Menorca might be worth considering. Very family/multi-generational friendly. Perhaps look at a hotel that has a kid's club as wel.1

Menorca is lovely but I wouldn't call it flat except maybe Son Bou.
The Costa Dorada/Daurada around Malgrat / Santa Susanna / Pineda is very flat, a short flight to Barcelona, and has a range of family oriented hotels including AI if that's what you choose.1
