Does any fellow E.ON Next customer  agree with me it's monstrously unfair that in order to qualify for their current offer to lower one's enrrgy bill by fifty percent you must have a smartmeter installed? For various trasons I adamantly refuse to have such a device but the company declares that my decision excludes me taking advantage of the advertised saving. I'm bryond outraged. I find it astonishing that the policy is presumably legal. To me the stipulation is discriminatory in the extreme. Or am I being naive?

I think you are looking at this like others that haven't embraced the smart meter world and maybe Cutting off one's nose to spite one's face in this instance.

Spitting blood is quite the image.

It is not discriminatory in any way, it is perfectly legal. You refusing to have a smart meter means that they do not have to offer you deals only available to those with a smart meter. Of course you will be compelled to have one within a few years anyway, so you might as well take the benefits now rather than shoot yourself in the foot.

It  may be worth running through your reasons for not wanting a Smart Meter here - more often than not these days people will be able to explain to you why the things you may be concerned about really aren't an issue, and reassure you, there has been a lot of both nonsense talked about SMs in the past, some of which although thoroughly disproved now, has "stuck", and also changes to the way they work. For example, many people are reluctant still to have a SM installed as they have been told that it won't work when they change supplier - in probably 99.99 percent of cases this is no longer true as the meters being installed now (SMETS2) will happily stay "smart" through as many supplier changes as you like.

You'll find plenty of people here willing to take time to set your mind at rest, but not too many who even vaguely agree that Eon's policy is even unreasonable - and quite clearly it is not discriminatory I'm afraid!

I don't think you are being naive - more "under a misapprehension" perhaps.

Very tiring hearing "discrimination" etc bandied about when it's really a case of I'm not getting what I want, how I want, essentially.

Without getting mired in the smart meters are great, smart meters are awful hoo-ha,any supplier can offer tariffs as they see fit,if a smart meter is required then that obligation must be fulfilled.
Eon/Eon Next seem pretty good where a smart meter can't be fitted, they'll generally let you keep whatever tariff you wanted, however if it's a case of you wont have one,it's your choice to exclude yourself.

If I was in the position whereby I'd recieve half price energy till March 2024 and have any outstanding debt written off I'd think myself quite fortunate,to be frank.
