What tariff gets you 50% off?
It's not a tariff as such - it's a support scheme with certain conditions to qualify. It's on the main MSE site if you want to see more.

It’s not discriminatory as the offer really wouldn’t work without a smart meter. How else would EON know for definite how many kWh to discount?

No different to Tesco offering lower prices if you have a clubcard, same for Coop etc.
    The choice is yours.

There are genuine reasons for not liking smart meters: mostly the waste of all our money on the botched roll-out including the ridiculous SMETS1 meters not initially enrolled on the DCC; not to mention the outrageous claims of being able to save money without changing usage.

However it's important to understand that smart meters are also useful for some people because they give access to certain tariffs and offers such as smart tariffs like Octopus Agile and the Demand Side Response trials etc. These things saved/earned me around £500 last year with no apparent down side.

None of those affect whether someone is or is not better off getting a smart meter just now.
