in Credit cards
Hi All. Here’s the situation:
We are not in any financial difficulty & have ample funds to pay our credit cards each month. We use mostly travel reward cards to gain Avios etc and always pay off in full each month.
This month, we bought airline tickets & a lot of stuff so the bill is in 5 figures. Normally we would just pay it off as usual but Martin’s balance transfer card article got me thinking. There’s a Barclaycard offer of 12 months 0% and no transfer fee, which seems like free money to me. Keep the capital in a high interest a/c and just pay off the balance / 12 each month.

So, is this a good idea? We don’t want to impact our credit score simply by virtue of having a card that makes us appear to have debt we can’t manage (the hard search one-off is OK as we haven’t had any in a long time).

The pretend credit score will drop with any change but no one will ever know or care about it.
The debt at 0% will show on your files. If you have a good credit history it won't be a problem.
If you have a poor credit history, you won't be able to get the offer in any case.1 -

Solvent folks have 0% debt or no debt.
It's interest bearing debt that sends red flags.2
