Barclaycard and Google Pay

Does anyone know why Barclaycard UK doesn't work with Google Pay, and whether there are any plans for them to enable that service, since Barclays have closed their own contactless payment service? It is a bit odd, coming from a mainstream lender. Barclays UK debit cards do work with Google Pay. Barclaycard UK credit cards don't, however Barclaycard US credit cards do... Thanks.

Barclaycard did support Google Pay (I do not think it was for long), but stopped supporting it on 30th June 2023:They do not say why. Perhaps they had software problems.0

That wasn't Google Pay. It was a contactless mobile service through their own app (Barclays and/or Barclaycard mobile app). I have both Barclays and Barclaycard and when they closed that service I tried to add both cards to Google Pay.
Barclays debit card works on Gpay, the Barclaycard doesn't. The website says to use the Barclaycard plastic card - in this day and age...
PS. Apple Pay works with Barclaycard UK.

Barclays have only recently given up on forcing Android customers to use their own, crappy, mobile payments implementation. Apple Pay was supported from the outset because Apple refused to allow third parties to use the NFC hardware functionality within iPhones.Barclays debit cards were added earlier this year. As with everything they're taking their sweet time, but Barclaycard support is supposedly on its way.In the meantime, Curve can be used as a workaround (obviously don't use this for £100+ purchases as you lose S75 protection).1

Their own service was very unreliable.
Restricting access to the NFC functionality is something Google should have done as then Barclays in-house NFC wouldn't have been an issue.
Anyway, I suspect Google Pay it's not far now since they've enabled their Debit cards.1 -

I've been periodically (on average every 8 weeks or so) trying to add my Barclaycard Cashback Credit card to Google Wallet, so far without success. This evening much to my surprise, it seems that Barclays is finally allowing it's UK credit cards on Google Wallet. It's up and ready to go.There doesn't seem to much publicity about this change so far that I've come across. 🤔0
