Ebay V Royal Mail online labels- price differences

Firstly I am aware that we don't all have the same ebay view when using ebay, I actually see different screen arrangements when switching between my accounts. However the actual prices and sizes are the same whichever account I use and in many cases ebay are more expensive than RM direct.

Firstly, and I have moaned about this before ebay don't offer me a large letter size up to 500g (£2.30 on the RM site) they only do up to 100g and then up to 750 g at £2.60 - and of course just at the moment I seem to be selling a lot of items that come out at between 110 - 180 g so have to switch RM for them.

Then and I only found this out a week or so ago, if you buy your label on the RM click and drop site you can have any size, including standard large letter and standard parcel , collected for free, whereas buying through ebay you can only have RM48 or RM24 collected.

The prise went up recently on large letter £1.85 - £2.30 bit of a jump going above 100g that's how and why big seller's only ship in plastic bags to sneak under 100g no padded envelopes cracked case's. Lots just give up selling media they can't compete with 1p profits even Cex don't really want stuff only rare deleted media. Landfill has all the videos now dvds will follow.

It’s even worse if eBay don’t offer you the £2.30 option and instead jump straight to the next weight band at £2.60. It’s a bit of a faff having to go through RM a lick and drop , but I had 3 LLs over 100g to send today and going through RM saved me 90p.

With the Ad fees and transaction fees at standard rate a new dvd £3 + £2.30 P&P the seller after gross fees probably makes 60p so how they even bother is beyond me you would need to sell hundred a day to make £60 I think Royal Mail are just trying to get back into black rather than debt. Sunday delivery will be standard no letters on weekends they want the Amazon work back hence collections from anyone.

underneath the drop down menu for selecting 100g or 750g there's a link that says "enter weights and sizes manually" which works for me.
if you can't see that, is there not a way of altering which version of the seller hub you are using?

Looking at additional services just bought up the more expensive options like tracked 24 etc. However by some strange co incidence one of my accounts this morning, the private one now gives me the £2.30 option without prompting, how weird is that!

I’ll check the business account later but I’m hoping it’s the same.

  • RM buying in Ebay is more expensive than a RM account or Click&Drop. I agreed a good prices with RM for Tracked 24 and 48. Had a few complains but better than Evri.

ebay and RM click and drop are the same price now as is RM tracked 24 and 48.

RM business accounts can vary but by the time you add on fuel and other business costs that RM impose (and don't forget the Christmas surcharge) it is often cheaper to use the standard customer click and drop rather than a business account. I stopped using my business account a few years back as it became considerably more expensive than buying as a general customer- plus there was no compo for loss.
