eBay partial refund - how to protect seller from future claim

Hi, the item I sold, buyer is not happy with condition, we have agreed £50 partial refund which is 15% off sales price.

How can I protect myself from future claim about the condition of the item.

Are you a business seller or a private seller?

To avoid claims, accurately list your item with clear photographs, especially of any flaws / damage.
  • AFAIK the buyer can still open a returns request if you do a part refund* for the remaining amount.

As long as you refund the £50 through eBay via the send refund link on the order the buyer won't be able to double dip, they'd only be able to reclaim the remaining amount.

*There is sometimes an option on the refunds flow to offer a prat refund which would prevent the buyer opening another return but I don't think it's there if eBay have enrolled you in auto accepted returns and even if you do a part refund via a return request preventing a second return request the buyer may be able to do a chargeback with their payment provider.

Best bet is to refund the £50 via eBay correctly and if the buyer later finds another issue then agree to the item being returned for a refund of the remainder of the payment.
