Car has had problem from 6 months old
Hi, I hope someone can help. I will give you a brief summary.
I brought a new Vauxhall Astra 1.6 CDTI on 68 plate pre reg car from Thurlow Nunn Luton. This Vauxhall Astra was like new, only couple miles driven. I brought and pick the Astra up on 26th January 2019.
The first time the Astra engine management light came was less than six months of use. Thurlow Nunn said because of the wrong type of driving I doing. I drive mainly in towns.
I have spent roughly about £1000 each year since I had the Astra fixing it, this does not include servicing.
The Astra has been service keeping as much as possible to manufactures service recommend instructions ( Covid all the garages were closed) Astra had had oil pump change by Vauxhall. It now is back in the garage with another problem with a quote of £2000 pounds to put it right. This car has never work properly
I have ask Vauxhall Customer Service for help. I been in touch with the the motor ombudsman. They say it is out of guarantee and I have to prove this car was not fit for purpose when I brought it. I'm the only owner of this Vauxhall Astra.
Thanks for your assistance and have good weekend
Best wishes

What is wrong with it now? Has it always been serviced by the Vauxhall dealer? How much did it miss the service by during Covid? How many miles a years are you doing?
At five years old the best you could hope for is a goodwill contribution dependent on the answers to the above.1 -
Hi Nobbie1967, It has never missed service. One of services was about two or three months longer than it should have been. My annual mileage is about 11,000 miles year.
This Astra has spent about quarter of its life in Vauxhall dealerships. This Astra has done about 43,000 miles.0 -
What is the current fault? It sounds like you should stand a chance of a goodwill contribution.1

Something to with the vauxhall astra particulate filter system. The Vauxhall dealership is quoting £2000 repair cost. It had the particle filter sensor changed about five months ago. This car has been disaster, I wish I never brought it. The most annoying thing is, I had Astra before which was great but someone drove into it and It was written off by the insurance company.0

Why did you chose a diesel car?

Chances are it needs to do a forced regen because you don't do the speeds nor mileage for the car to do it automatically.
It potentially could be something completely outside the DPF system but due to a cars canBUS setup, spurious faults can occur, that will generate a DPF fault.
An example I saw on youtube was some guy had a DPF issue, was told he needed a DPF replacing meaning £££, then took it to a specialist and they found it was the aftermarket wing mirror the owner had replaced, due to it not having a heated mirror facility, it random generated a DPF fault on the canBUS system even though its not remotely related.
Take it to a reputable independent garage with DPF knowledge because main dealers are dreadful at diagnostics.

Why did you chose a diesel car?I drive less than 5,000 miles per year, mainly short journies. I have never had a problem with the DPF, putting your foot down can make DPF issues worse.Mine is a 2013 Zafira, I guess it's a Euro 5 and yours would be a Euro 61 -
Hi Sheramber
I had Vauxhall Astra diesel before and it was fine. I never any issues with it always back to the dealerships.0 -
I don’t think you’ll get far with the dealership as they will blame the way it’s driven. Your best bet is to take it to a garage that can confirm the diagnosis and if it is the DPF, send it off for cleaning and then reinstall. The service my local garage uses puts the DPF in a high temperature oven to burn off all the deposits blocking the filter. Should be much cheaper than replacing.0

Is there really such a thing as burning ash, surely there is nothing to burn, if the cars regeneration process is working? Can it be emptied out, is it a powder?
