Freelance Contract?

I went for an interview earlier this week for a second job (I already have a part time PAYE job).  I haven't heard back yet but am very interested in the role.  However, I was told that the role would be freelance and I would have to invoice each week.  The thing is the role is a set hourly rate (all the time) and set amount of hours per week (during term time but in the school holidays I could choose my own hours up to a maximum the term time hours) and isn't something I could send someone else to do so is it right for them to employ me on this basis? I was told that all the staff are employed on the same basis (I assume other than the lady who interviewed me who is the owner of the business which is a dance school). I don't have an issue with all this but am concerned regarding my rights if I were to take the job (if indeed I get it). Am I overthinking things or is this a red flag?

As a freelancer/contractor you wont get holiday or sick pay, so are you happy that the rate being offered is sufficient to compensate for the loss of these?

The risk is predominately with the client, if their determination of you being self employed was proven to be wrong and actually you are a worker or employee then they become liable for previously denied sick leave etc which if they have uplifted rates means they effectively double pay.

Ultimately if you dont want to be self employed you could use an umbrella company but then all the employer costs will be deducted from your hourly rate.

Which 'rights' (or lack of them) are you worried about - eg personal liability of some description, lack of perks, no job security...?
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!
